Week 39 of Pregnancy

FACTS:

The baby’s bowels are filled with greenish-black meconium. This becomes the first motion after the birth, comprising excretions from its alimentary glands, mixed with bile pigment, lanugo and cells from its intestinal wall.

Your placenta is now at its largest.

Braxton Hicks contractions will be stronger and more frequent and renewal of the amniotic fluid occurs every three hours. Your baby’s weight gain will slow, as will yours.

TIPS:

If the rehearsal contractions are uncomfortable, try using water to ease the pain. Braxton Hicks are useful to practice deep breathing techniques.

Ask your partner, friend or family member to cook for you if you find it too tiring.

Listen to your body. If you are really worried call your doctor, no matter how trivial your concern may seem.
